MLB도 KBO 따라온다..."이르면 2026년 ABS 정식 도입"

AP통신은 17일(한국시각) "MLB가 내년 스프링 트레이닝에서 챌린지 방식으로 로봇 심판을 테스트할 예정이다. 2026년에는 정규 시즌에 도입할 수 있는 가능성이 크다"고 말했다.

MLB는 2019년부터 마이너리그에서 ABS를 실험해왔으나, 모든 경기를 ABS 판정으로 진행하진 않고 있다.

3경기는 ABS가 전체 투구에 대해 판정을 하고, 3경기는 심판이 판정을 하는 방식을 택하는 챌린지 방식을 두고 있다. 단 심판이 스크라이크·콜 판정을 내리는 경기에선 팀 당 3차례씩 챌린지(비디오 판독)를 요청할 수 있다.

롭 맨프레드 MLB 커미셔너는 "구단주 회의에서 스프링 트레이닝 테스트 없이 빅리그에 ABS를 도입하기는 어려울 것이라고 말했다"고 밝혔다.

테스트를 거치면 이듬해 정규시즌 도입도 가능할 전망이다. 다만 맨프레드 커미셔너는 "스트라이크 존을 두고 기술적 문제는 아직 해결해야 할 과제"라고 말했다.

한편, KBO리그는 2024시즌 ABS를 전면 도입해 시즌을 치러나가고 있다. 모든 경기에 대해 ABS가 스트라이크·볼 판정을 하고 있다.
