'나는 왕이로소이다!' 메츠 구단주 코헨, 7개국 GDP보다 더 많이 지출...10억 달러 초과하면 10개국

뉴욕 메츠 구단주 스티브 코헨이 이번 오프시즌 지출한 돈이 여러 국가 GDP보다 많은 금액인 것으로 나타났다.

스포츠낫은 25일(한국시간) 코헨이 지출한 돈은 거의 10억 달러로, 7개 국가의 GDP보다 많다고 전했다.

코헨은 후안 소토를 스포츠 역대 최대 규모인 7억 6,500만 달러를 안겨주었다. 이는 오타니 쇼헤이가 2023년 로스앤젤레스 다저스와 체결한 7억 달러 계약을 가뿐히 넘는 금액이다. 97% 디퍼(지급유예)의 오타니 계약과 달리 소토의 계약에는 디퍼가 포함되지 않는다.

코헨은 또한 투수 션 마네아와 3년 7,500만 달러에 계약했다.

뉴욕포스트에 따르면 코헨이 이번 오프시즌에 지출한 총 금액은 9억 1,825만 달러이며, 소토가 옵트아웃을 할 경우 9억 5,625만 달러로 증가할 수 있다.

코헨은 이어 피트 알론소와 알렉스 브레그먼도 대형 계약으로 영입할 태세다.

스포츠낫은 월드미터 통계 자료를 인용, 이번 오프시즌 코헨의 지출이 10억 달러에 가까워지면서 그는 이미 7개국의 GDP를 넘어섰다고 했다.

• 사모아: 8억 3,200만 달러
• 도미니카 연방: 6억 1,200만 달러
• 상투메 프린시페: 5억 4,700만 달러
• 미크로네시아: 4억 2,700만 달러
• 마샬 제도: 2억 8천만 달러
• 키리바시: 2억 2,300만 달러
• 투발루: 6천만 달러

스포츠낫은 또 코헨의 지출이 10억 달러를 초과하면 국가 수는 10개로 늘어난다고 덧붙였다.

천문학적인 돈을 투자한 코헨이 내년 시즌 월드시리즈 우승을 차지할지 주목된다.
